nedit

nedit is an intuitive text editor that uses mouse and menus. You can't use it over telnet or ssh, but you can always use it at the workstation console.

Among its other features, nedit will do syntax highlighting -- using different colors to highlight comment lines vs. keywords vs. constants, etc., based on whether the file is C or Fortran or LaTeX or Matlab, etc.   Preferences for syntax highlighting are saved in a text file .nedit in your home directory.
